So, who am I and what's the point of this website?
About Me
I'm a 29 year-old Linux geek living both in the UK and Greece. I'm "practically married" to Tracey Wright, who works as an ODP. I prefer to be in Greece generally, but since Tracey moved back to England last year, I've obviously been spending more time in the UK. I'd really hate to leave Greece forever, so I moved to a smaller apartment in Piraeus in the hope that it will be financially feasible to keep two places, but we'll have to see...
My main interests are in the areas of IT, Mathematics and Philosophy, all of which I intend to write about on this site. At the moment I'm mostly engaged in building a Semantic Web Platform to start my new company with. I've set up this website as the beginning of a development project as explained below.
About This Site
I spend a lot of time working to find practical applications for Semantic Web technology. One of the simplest and most common ways to apply this technology is by using it to add semantic tags to blog entries and other kinds of data typical of Content Management Systems and Social Networking websites. I have slightly different things in mind for it, but first I want to explore the potential for using semantic markup to enhance common web publication tools.
Now, I'm not really a "blogging" kind of guy. Mostly because I'm not sure I have anything much worth writing about. But I'm making myself do this as a means of research, and hopefully a few people will find something interesting or useful here all the same. It may take me a while to get a decent sized body of content on this site, and even longer to start applying Semantic Web technology to it, but hopefully I'll get there in the end.
This site is built using the excellent open-source CMS Joomla! of which I've been a big fan since the Mambo days. The first thing I have to do is add some basic RDF storage and serving capabilities to Joomla! before I can do anything interesting with it. Since Joomla! is based on PHP, RAP is the logical choice, and I have almost finished a RAP component for this purpose. However, there are a few silly things that need to be sorted out before I publish that. If anybody is interested in collaborating on that front, drop me a line.
